Exam target

For the ÖSD Zertifikat A2 exam, participants must be able to understand and use everyday expressions and very frequently used phrases to satisfy immediate needs, request and provide basic personal information about themselves and their daily life, and interact in an elementary way with other speakers provided they speak slowly and clearly and are willing to cooperate.

The ÖSD Zertifikat A2 is aimed at German learners from 14 years of age and certifies linguistic competence in routine situations with familiar and known topics.

The ÖSD Zertifikat A2 exam consists of two modules: a written exam (reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression) and an oral exam (oral expression), with a focus on the receptive skills of reading and listening comprehension.

 

Before taking the corresponding ÖSD exam, we recommend that you:

  • Have completed and passed a complete A2 level course.
  • Know the format and conditions of the ÖSD exam.
  • Remember that on the exam day, instructions will be given in German.

You will solve reading comprehension exercises based on authentic texts such as advertisements, short newspaper and magazine articles from Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.

  • Task 2: Detailed comprehension with multiple choice (5 items)

Listening


You will listen to conversations and brief messages on everyday topics in standard German from Austria, Germany, or Switzerland.

3 tasks - 15 items: 

  • Task 1: Multiple choice about weather (4 items)
  • Task 2: Complete notes (5 items)
  • Task 3: Survey about sports (5 items)

Writing


You will write a personal email answering specific questions.

The ÖSD Zertifikat A2 consists of two modules: a written exam (reading comprehension, listening comprehension and written expression) and an oral exam (oral expression). These modules can be taken and certified separately or in combination. Candidates who pass both modules on one exam date will receive a certificate listing all completed modules. Candidates who pass both modules within one year and at the same exam center will also receive a certificate listing all completed modules. Candidates who have taken and passed only one module will receive a certificate for the completed module.
